Hints on Getting the Most from the Virtual GSPC
System Requirements
The Virtual GSPC website is optimized for an 800x600 screen resolution (consult your operating system or video card documentation for more information). For best results, we recommend a recent version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser, although others such as Netscape Navigator may be used. To access some features, your browser's 'Java' or 'Javascript' option must be enabled. This option is usually turned on or off through your browser's 'Internet Options' or 'Preferences' menu (consult your browser's 'Help' or documentation for assistance). For certain file formats additional software may be required, as detailed in the 'Accessing Content and Features' section below.
Navigation
Hotel Lobby
Like previous Global Super Projects Conferences (GSPCs) held around the world, the quickest way to enter a Session is from the Hotel Lobby.
Select any of the nine Sessions by clicking on an icon.
Alternatively, click the text link at page bottom to enter Session One.
The Sessions
Return to the Hotel Lobby from any Session by clicking anywhere on the header graphic, or by clicking the text link at page bottom.
Alternatively, click the 'Next Session' text link to proceed through the nine sessions in numerical order.
Accessing Content and Features
In each Session, the related Papers are listed using a standard format as illustrated above. The available features and file formats for each Paper are accessed by clicking one or more of the buttons, shown and described below:
Abstracts
If the author ('Speaker') has provided an abstract of his or her Paper, it can be opened by clicking this button. In some cases, the abstract may exactly match the description shown on the Session page, while in others it may be far more comprehensive. All abstracts are in Adobe® Acrobat® PDF format (see below for more information about this format).
Papers
Each Paper is available in one or more of the file formats shown below:
The button identified with 'PDF' opens the Adobe® Acrobat® PDF version of the Paper, where available. This 'Portable Document Format' allows users on various computer platforms to view the paper as the author intended, print it and/or save the file to a local disk drive for future reference. Adobe® Acrobat® or Adobe® Acrobat® Reader (a free download) must be installed on your computer. If you are unable to open a PDF document, visit the Adobe website to download and install a FREE copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The button marked 'DOC' opens a Microsoft Word® 'document' file (*.doc) of the Paper, where available. A recent version of Microsoft Word® must be installed on your computer to open this format.
The button marked 'PPT' opens a Microsoft PowerPoint® file (*.ppt) of the Paper, where available. A recent version of Microsoft PowerPoint® must be installed on your computer to open this format. PowerPoint files are often very large in size and may require several minutes to download on slow Internet connections.
Where available, the button marked 'HTM' opens the Paper as standard HTML web pages. No special software, aside from your Web browser, is required.
About the Speakers
If the Speaker(s) provided biographical information, clicking this button will open it. All Speaker Bios are in Adobe® Acrobat® PDF format (see above for more information about this format).
Interactive Forums
The 'Interact' button is your key to networking with other Virtual GSPC attendees or speakers. Click on this button to open our Interactive Forums in a separate browser window. You will find a Forum for each Paper, as well as a General Discussion Forum to post your comments or suggestions related to the V-GSPC website or content. To post your comments, you must first register as a new user. When you return to the forum, you must log-in to add a post. Registration is not required to view existing posts.
